In the early 1980’s, Steve fronted local cover bands The Propellors and Serious Jelly playing regular pub / club gigs mostly in Margaret River, Dunsborough and Bunbury venues. After a musical hiatus (which included fatherhood x 3), Steve was asked by a student to pull out the guitar one more time and start a new band called Fuzzyiguana.
During the 1990’s Fuzzyiguana was a well-known band throughout the SW, regularly playing Margaret River, Dunsborough, Capel, Bunbury, Donnybrook, Nannup, Manjimup, Bridgetown, Greenbushes, Collie, Harvey and the odd gig in Perth. Fuzzyiguana gained mini cult status in the SW with some memorable stage performances from the 4 piece, their repertoire including many well received originals as well as popular covers. As time went by Fuzzyiguana morphed into Stickfish and together the band performed at pubs, Apple Festivals, Donnybrook Amphitheatre and occasional private functions. The boys still occasionally get together in the back hills of Brookhampton to blow the cobwebs out.
After many years living and playing music out of Donnybrook, Steve retired to Bunbury, where he lives with, and cares for, his wife Glenys and spends his leisure time writing and recording his own songs. Born in 1953, his musical tastes are now more subdued and his days on the road are over, but Steve is still pursuing his musical passion in his home recording studio – STEM Studios. STEM = Space, Time, Energy and Matter. Autumn Day was the first song Steve wrote, recorded and produced in STEM Studios, the song proving to be the catalyst for a resurgence in his musical career. Says Steve ”Over the years I’ve put together a large catalogue of original songs. I’m in the process now of recording the best of them, and hopefully in time, if I think they are good enough, I’ll release them”. Autumn Day dropped June 6th 2020 on all major streaming platforms, followed by Deja vu on October 13th 2023, with Just For You released on Dec 8th 2023. Steve’s music is what he calls Indian Ocean Cruise. “I look out my window and there it is ... The Indian Ocean. It puts me in the mood when I see it change every day". "Collaborating with Kingsley Oldmeadows (drummer for Dami Im and Human Nature), and Fenton Wilde (lead guitarist with legendary West Aussie band The Jets), were recording highlights for me, as was working with Max Carola (INXS, Robert Palmer, Aerosmith, Roxette) as Mix Engineer on Deja vu".
