It was an honour to be asked to perform at the dawn Anzac Day ceremony, held on Little Pigeon Island (part of the Abrolhos Group) on April 25th. I was a bit emotional singing the Redgum classic "I was Only 19", to a small group braving a chilly breeze as the sun rose over Australia, lighting up the low lying coral / limestone islands off the coast of Geraldton. Anzac Day is a day of remembrance in Australia. We pay tribute to the men and women who have served this country in the armed forces and, we particularly remember the patriots who lost their lives in various conflicts around the world. My Dad's eldest brother joined the RAAF during WW11. His plane was shot down near Texel (Netherlands) and he never returned home. Half a century later, Dutch trawler fishermen discovered the plane wreck and a historian travelled to Australia, finally bringing his "dog tags" back home to Donnybrook, Western Australia. It was poignant and daunting singing at 6am as I've never done that before ... I did my best for him. Unfortunately, we only have some iPhone vision of the morning performance ... hope you enjoy.
