Smarty was a character created in the late 1980's when, after a long day working on the farm, I was asked to make up bedtime stories for our 3 children. Smarty was always in trouble, going on exciting adventures and doing crazy stuff ... but he always managed to extricate himself and, eventually, live happily ever after in the Secret Valley. He became popular enough that our neighbours children asked if they could listen in on the stories. That was about 35 years ago so, you can imagine how rewarding it is to see our grandchildren now enjoying the same stories ... even asking for more! I was chuffed last week when I received a pic from the neighbours boy (now ~40 years of age), listening to The Great Journey with his own children at bedtime. As a writer / musician, you don't do it for the money .... it's a passion that you simply want to share. Thank you everybody and, after much ado and 35 years ... In between recording songs I've been busy putting together a children's bedtime story audiobook. The audio version of a hard copy book I published in 2004 - Smarty Pants the Fox (The Great Journey), is the first in a series of 4 bedtime audio books. The other 3 stories will be uploaded to streaming platforms soon. Please .... have a listen (originally written for 3-8 yo children), and leave a rating on Spotify. The initial repair operation did not succeed, necessitating a second op in December 2024. After a lengthy and diligent rehab with plenty of physio etc, I slowly regained the ability to play and the Abrolhos performance ( April 25th 2025), was the first time I had the confidence to play in front of a crowd. The good news is, the accident gave me such a scare I went back into the studio and compiled some songs to put together for a new album. I'm excited to get back into it and can't wait to rekindle some studio magic with Kingsley Oldmeadows (producer/mix/master on Just For You). Keep an eye here or, on my Instagram @steve_trigwell.

Abrolhos Islands 2025

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/abrolhos-islands-2025

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/abrolhos-islands-2025#comments

Uncategorized

It was an honour to be asked to perform at the dawn Anzac Day ceremony, held on Little Pigeon Island (part of the Abrolhos Group) on April 25th. I was a bit emotional singing the Redgum classic "I was Only 19", to a small group braving a chilly breeze as the sun rose over Australia, lighting up the low lying coral / limestone islands off the coast of Geraldton. Anzac Day is a day of remembrance in Australia. We pay tribute to the men and women who have served this country in the armed forces and, we particularly remember the patriots who lost their lives in various conflicts around the world. My Dad's eldest brother joined the RAAF during WW11. His plane was shot down near Texel (Netherlands) and he never returned home. Half a century later, Dutch trawler fishermen discovered the plane wreck and a historian travelled to Australia, finally bringing his "dog tags" back home to Donnybrook, Western Australia. It was poignant and daunting singing at 6am as I've never done that before ... I did my best for him.
Unfortunately, we only have some iPhone vision of the morning performance ... hope you enjoy.

October 18th, 2023

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/october-18th-2023

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/october-18th-2023#comments

Uncategorized

[...]

FM Radio Interview

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/fm-radio-interview

http://www.stephentrigwell.com/news/fm-radio-interview#comments

Uncategorized

I was asked into the studios of Bunbury 103.7 (FM radio), for a live interview for the launch of Deja vu on October 13th 2023. I wrote, recorded and mixed the song (as best I could) in my Stem Studios here in Bunbury. It's a rock song, drawing on musical influences from different eras. Lyrically inspired by personal upheaval and change, it acknowledges the inherent positivity of Life (if you want it to be). Deja Vu speaks of opportunity arising from adversity and, the excitement that uncertainty offers and brings. Trust in the unknown. In a surreal twist ... when I put this song out for comment and feedback, I was approached by a guy called Max Carola. Max is a Mixing/ Mastering Engineer operating out of Naples, Italy ... and he wanted to mix/master Deja Vu. He said the song had a lot of potential, but needed high level desk work to polish it. I knew he was right. I checked his bio ... he had all the right gear, he's worked with INXS, Robert Palmer, Aerosmith, Roxette, Mariah Carey ... the list goes on. I'm just an old bloke out of Bunbury! I had to pinch myself. Anyway - I had sung, played, recorded and put together every track (30 tracks total) in Stem Studios, mixed the song to the best of my ability, before sending the .wav files to Max. What he came back with has simply stunned me. It's the same song ... but his desk skills have blown me away. The song is bigger, wider, taller and more expansive ... and will probably be released prior to Just For You. Keep an eye here in my website or search Steve Trigwell on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, wherever etc etc. Both songs should be out within weeks. Search steve_trigwell on Instagram for updates.
